Baking in Turbo broiler

Baking Technique

Have you tried baking pastries using a turbo broiler?
Photo from this link

We use the turbo broiler mostly for chicken, liempo and  aahhh crispy pata. ^^ Yummy! ^^ Maybe some use it for baking. However, I don't know how to convert the temperature from a regular oven to a turbo broiler and that's the reason why I don't engage myself into baking. Anyway, I came across this website (Home Cooking Rocks!) while looking for a chocolate lollipop recipe. I saw her recipe "The chocolate chunk cookies" using a turbo broiler. Hmmmmm, that caught my attention. ^^ According to the site:
Re “can i also use a turbo broiler”
Yes.
“what adjustments should be made”
None.
Let's see... ^^
 A non-stick pan

First Attempt: I did not preheat the turbo broiler. Set the temperature to 150 for 10 minutes. And the result is...
Yaiks, di naluto yung loob. ^^

Second Attempt: I set the temperature to 200 for 10 minutes. And this is the result... Heehee!
Sunog!! heehee!

Third Attempt: Set the turbo broiler for 150 for 10 minutes.
PERFECT!!! ^^  Crunchy outside, chewy inside.

So, I therefore conclude (NAKS!) when baking in a turbo broiler, we need to make some adjustments. Turbo broiler or convection oven circulates heated air using a fan. This not only prevents overheating of food but also helps warm the food faster than the conventional oven. In baking, we need to lower the temperature for even results. ^^

Technique: Preheat the turbo broiler for 150 degrees for 3-5 minutes. For baking cookies, Default setting is 150 degrees for 10 minutes (chewy). If you want it a little crunchier bake it for 11-13 minutes.

For cupcakes the temp that i use is 150 degrees for 15 mins. Preheat the turbo broiler first. Cakes? Haven't tried it yet. I'll post it right away as soon as I make one. Check my cupcake recipes. Thanks for viewing my blog.

Try mo nalang 150 ulit for 15 minutes then pag di pa luto lagay mo ulit for another 5-10 minutes.:) mas crunchy lang lalabas yung ibabaw kesa sa loob. Try ko ulit this week then ill update my blog soon.:) sa turbo kasi unang

Mishee said…
Clarrisse: any evap milk will do. Wag na yung mga cowhead walang lasa. Heehee! Alaska is good. I used buttermilk sa banana cupcakes. Buttermilk - 1 cup of milk then add 1tbsp of white vinegar then wait for 5mins. Parang mag bubuo sya. Then you can mix it na sa batter mo.:)

I am glad to see your blog. I have a turbo broiler. Last Christmas, I made lasagna. My rectangular pyrex are too big for the broiler so I used the round ones instead pero mahirap maglayer ng pasta. Can I use the aluminum foil tray (disposable one; that can be bought in groceries) with the turbo broiler? Since it uses electric, will the aluminum foil tray not spark fire? I will make lasagna again this new year for the kids, that's why I was trying to search for an answer. Thank you. cez abelle
Mishee said…
Cez: hi there! Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes you can use alimunum foil tray sa turbo. Tried that before nung wala pa akong cake pan.:) share your recipe sa lasagna.:) thanks! Happy new year!

bakit ganun?i tried these cookies :( di naluto sa loob, and dumidikit sa ibaba nung dinagdagan ko pa ng 5 mins :(
Roselle said…
Mishee said…
Mishee said…

Mishee said…
Pwede naman siguro pero mas mabilis maluto ung sa itaas. so bantayan mo nalang din. let me know ha. pa link nalang para makita ko din pics. thanks!

Hi! I bake a lot of bread and cookies in a Turbo Broiler too. Cackes are by far the trickiest to do in the Turbo. But the most surefire way I know to beke things in the turbo is to reduce the recipe given temperature by 100 degrees but bake at the same prescribed cooking time and make sure you use the thin kinds of baking pans and sheets (yung cheap lang) It helps the geat penetrate your food more especially at the bottom where there is no heating element.
YUN LANG, HAPPY TURBO BAKING!

Aluminum pans, pwede rin ba sa turbo?

Na excite naman ako sa pieces of advise mo, I've been using my turbo to cook meats- mostly steaks since it's a lot of work to actually grill outside. My kids love pastries and dahil possible naman pala mag bake on the turbo broiler,, no need to prolong their wait. Thanks a lot! Appreciate the posts! Keep posting, hehe!

-- for blueberry cheesecake what you need to bake lang naman is the crust. but just to be safe you can buy oreos or ready mix na crust then just put it in the freezer. no need for baking.

-- hi saffy, thanks for reading my blog. haven't tried baking bread yet. try mo nalang muna half ng temp ng oven. kasi sa liit ng turbo broiler madaling masunog and madaling makaluto. try 150 degrees muna just to be safe.

Your blog is super helpful! It made me bake for the first time and inspired me to cook more for my family. So far all your recipes are patok to them! I even brought my first ever cookies and cupcakes to a bridal shower and super benta! For the cookies, medyo troubleshooting mode especially since parang hollow sa gitna. pati sa cream cheese frosting troubleshoot mode din ako since mine turned out watery and slid down sa cupcakes. I tried chilling the frosting but pag nagiging room temp, nagmemelt pa rin.

But I super love your blog! thank you so much! :)

hi there, normal sugar will do. nag pre heat ka ng turbo broiler? make sure na mix mabuti mga ingredients before lagay yun batter sa pan. and try mo muna tusukin ng toothpick yung cookies kung wala ng didikit sa toothpick okay na yun. before removing sa pan make it cool muna bago transfer sa wire rack. maluluto pa ulit kasi yun. let me know ayt? add my fb page www.facebook.com/mishees pm me if you have other questions pa. thanks again.
